Day 1/30 Juice Fast
Let me start you off with a little bit of history. I've been a fitness instructor for the past 15 years. The 1st half of my career, I lived in NYC. I would walk or ride my kick scooter to the gym and teach 1- 3 classes a day, 5 days a week. I did the workouts with my classes. Between my teaching schedule and life responsibilities, like grocery shopping, taking my kids to and from school, after school activities, etc. with walking my main mode of transportation, or subways with lots of stairs, I would easily burn between 3k-4k calories a day. I ate healthy and was able to maintain my weight. I got to eat a lot! I was ripped and I wasn't even trying! It was a side effect of my job and lifestyle.
After having my 3rd child, we decided to move out of NYC and into the burbs. I stopped teaching classes for a little while and we had to buy a car. That was a total shock to my system. After we moved, I easily gained over 30lbs. That was back in 2014 and I've been on the struggle bus ever since. I did go back to work, but at this new gym, I was teaching a different format and I did not do the workouts with my classes. I've had my ups and downs throughout the years. My problem is that I can never stick with anything because I always give into temptation.
When the lockdowns began in 2020, I was back on my path to losing weight. Everything was going well, then BAMM! Monday, March 16, I taught my last 3 evening classes before lockdown. I was helping out another studio out of town and my company put me up in a hotel for the night. As soon as I got out of work, I went to the pizza shop and ordered myself a small pie and a veggie slice. I went back to my hotel room and ate the entire pie and extra slice in bed while R.E.M.s "It's The End Of The World As We Know It" ran through my head on repeat. Oh, I had packed my healthy food for the overnight trip, but I wasn't even thinking about that.
I'll admit, I was looking forward to the lockdown. I was waking up at 3:45/4:00am weekdays and 6:00am weekends, I had Mondays and every other Sunday off. I was soooooo looking forward to sleeping in. I got to watch TV and binge all the shows my friends were talking about! I became the biggest couch potato. By June of 2020, I had gained a record 20lbs in less than 3 months!!!! For the past 2 years, I've been working at getting this weight off. I lose and gain repeatedly. I know all of the things. I've read all of the books. But I don't apply it to myself. I have not been disciplined enough and would always give into temptation.
After numerous, too many to count attempts at losing the extra weight, I'm going "ALL OUT" as we would say at my previous job. I've committed to a 30 day juice fast. 30 days, juice and water. No solid foods! The only way I'm going to make it through this is if I tell the world, if I make myself accountable, and if I step out of my comfort zone. So here I am!
I was really excited to start my day. I recently read Mel Robbins The High 5 Habit. So I started my day with the "High 5 Morning", which is a series of 6 steps that help set your intention for the day. I prepare my lemon water and off I go to do my "treadhill" workout for 45 minutes walking at a 15% incline and a few sets of weight training. Had a few more juices throughout the day. Hunger started to set in around 6pm, that's when I start counting the hours to bedtime. I had my Juicing Support group video chat and met some nice ladies and got some great tips. Not everyone is doing 30 days, but we are all cheering for each other. We are planning on meeting every night! Knowing I have my group to report to, knowing they are counting on me is what I believe is going to help me through this journey.
